LGB Porter and cedar short logging cars Bottom
of Page
I came across the following picture in a book my
friend Rod loaned me. The book is titled The Locomotive Portraits
/ Kinsey Photographer. The book is full of logging locomotives in
the Pacific NW.
The text with the picture says:
"Many shingle mills made use of light railroads to bring their cedar
bolts out of the woods. Here a load of bolts is about to be transferred
to the pond to supply grist for the mill".
I really like the LGB Porter I have and when I saw the
above picture went about creating the scene. I haven't done
anything yet to the Porter but will eventually repaint it. For the
flat cars I started with the Hartland Flat Car kit which you can pick up
for under $8.00. The kits comes all black. I painted the
body with Krylon rust color primer and the floor decking with Folk Art
Barnwood. I replaced the plastic wheels that come with the kit
with USA black metal wheels. The log pieces are from branches in
the yard.
